a bit bass heavy, but otherwise, on it.

what is the instrument [or sample] youre using for that bassline?  it may be that it could use a little refinement.

without any more info, i cant really get too in depth…

the kicks are a little understated, id say.  really, i think the heavy bass is what makes me think that.  yeah, probably.  ignore that one.

good lead in, with the off tempo hook.

the guitars squeal, im asssuming you did it that way on purpose.  no need to change it, thats on me.

i like the blocks [or whatever that is], they add to the beat.

is this a mixdown or a master?  again, cant tell if its normalized.  either way, a hard limiter on the master tracks and slightly quieter bassline would give you some room to punch it up some more.  that is, if you didnt have a limiter there already.

as a two minute track, it works.  if expanded into a full song, breaks, bridges and drops would be helpful.

and i humbly retract.  keep em coming.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

this is unmastered and completely rough. I made the beat and wrote and rapped the vocals in my own studio. no samples used – at all. guitars are totally made to squeal and be distorted. I think it sounds way better than most of the underground rap I hear tho

then, id say, limiter on the master tracks, tone down [or insert eq] the bassline, or replace it with a more natural instrument, then mix and master that bitch.

its more accurate to say i did rap and record.

we are on 'indefinite hiatus'.  thats industry-speak for, 'not doing much lately'.

collaboration is not out of the question.  just a matter of comin up with the right project, and coordinating it.  email me with a proposal.  or put it up here, whatever.  i still produce and engineer, and im assuming i can still write.  havent recently, though.

speaking of which, spange was all about the big faygoluvers collab track, anybody remember?  what happened with that?

perhaps.  gonna need to dialogue about it at some point, if its gonna be good.

you talkin just for the hell of it, or you got a direct application for it?  you know what, go head and email me about it.  takes time, but less clutter on the board.

to be specific, theres two guys here that ive been most interested in collaborating with, that being spange and lucem ferre.

at first i thought about maybe supplying an instrumental to fuck with, but lucem dont need beats, and spange hasnt really been around.  far as i know, he dont need beats, either.

if im gonna be recording vocals, it would really be best to record for the long, long delayed lp.  not to say i wont do it, though.

but anyway, thats neither here nor there, at the moment.

if your email address doesnt say sketchez123 or some shit, make it clear who you are, so i dont gloss over it.

easiest thing, in the short term, i put a downloadable track up.  you then record, and either put up the vocal tracks, or handle the mix at your end.

the logistics of it pretty much require a side conversation.

Yeah, the main synth stands out for me too, the highs are up to high, was thinking about maybe making it an octave lower.

Something seems a bit wrong with the chorus though, it just seems empty, I'll definitely put turn the vocals up at that point and turn the guitar up as well. Might add something there too.

That's really good, all it needs is a master.

You're delivery is very well done, really good flow to it. You and Scruff have the best delivery out of the FLH rappers, something that I and many other FLH artists really need to work on but that's neither here nor there when talking about production.

I know you said you used no samples which is awesome because I don't like working with just samples myself, I like creating stuff. So was that all synth or was it actually guitar?

dont know that youd need to make that big a change, try lowering the volume on em a touch, and eqing the highs [say around 10-12k+] down a tad.

if that.

course, dropping a full octave might make the shit sound dope.  i dunno, im actually drrrunk as fuckin hell right now.  havent been this drunk in almost a year...

irrelevant, ill be straight in five or six hours.  do your thang, holmes.

keep in mind, too...  that bright sound is kinda your style.  dont think it has to be fucked with just cuz my style is different.  its all relative.

No, it was actually bothering me. I dropped an octave  because I was originally gonna have it down an octive and it still seems as though the highs are too high, I'll probably just drop the volume on it. I made a few changes and other than that issue with the highs it sounds way better.

whats up with this instrumental you were talkin about?  or, is this it, just with vocals?

myself, im thinkin ill try to whip up a track this weekend, perhaps.  i havent done it yet because i didnt have any specific demonstrative point to talk about.

but, maybe ill get an idea by then.

anyone else out there got theories to discuss, questions, problems, or just work they wanna have critiqued?  or, for that matter, show off?

i know theres more than a few beatmakers around here.  plus, theres gotta be someone lookin to start.  bring it on!

Funny thing is I bet most of the people that sign up for that class won't have a future in the music business. I just see a lot of people try to learn the stuff but not seeming actually interested in it and half assing a lot of stuff.

That instrumental needs some changes and I've been too busy to make them.
