Embertone Friedlander Violin. I fucking want that shit. Buy it for me, Scruffy.
I really really want this, but I'm not buying any synths or anything until I get something better for making music on. That shit is expensive too. But it sounds like heaven's vagina. Totally worth $100.
Why not just pay $100 and have someone play violin on the track?
1 I don't just have $100 dollars to throw out like that every time I want some strings on my shit.
2 This thing is pretty damned close to an actual violin.
3 I only have to pay once and I can use it all I want.
4 Sometimes the first thing I do is just play with the 'instruments' before I actually create the beat for inspiration or to find the right tune to lay down the foundation.
It's just a much cheaper and much more convenient alternative.
You could also have a real musician who you keep in your closet and then you have him come out when you need some violin. I guess you could pay someone to do that, but it might get kind of expensive. A cheaper alternative would be to get about a 3 foot bar made out of iron or lead, and hammer away at the back of the knee when the knee's slightly bent. The violinist ain't going anywhere after that. You should be able to get a bar like that for much less than $100 BTW.
You gotta feed your prisoner to keep then alive and trust me that gets expensive....100 bucks is nothing compared to the cost of soundproofing your closet...trust me on this one...

I downloaded a bunch of free soundfonts and alot of them are really really fucking fantastic. I can't wait to use them. Like, I've never really been into soundfonts because all the ones I heard have been pretty synthetic sounding when I'm looking for a more authentic sound. But the soundfonts I founds were fucking incredible.
I really really can't wait to put them into action but first thing's first now that I got a final verse.
I've been trying to get this song recorded and put up for free so people know that I'm not dead and that I'm still actually doing shit but the studio I go to is being used by one of the bassists for NIN and that dick hole is using it all weekend which is the only time I can use it.

bumped for studio time by a bassist... thats gotta sting some.
at least its not a drummer.
once, this rock band wanted me to record em. i said okay, but the drummer packs his own shit and sets it up himself.
they called me back about three minutes later like, 'drummer aint comin.'
awfully paranoid, arent you?

Well he told me last time I was there that the bassist for NIN was going to use the studio to work on a project with a whole different band that's supposed to be some type of gothic synth pop type stuff. He said that it's like NIN's first album.
Last time I called he told me that a band was renting out the studio so I just assume it's that band.
I wasn't necessarily bumped, I just don't schedule appointments. I call in the day of and they already had made plans so I was SOL on that studio.
There are actually TONS of studios in walking distance, I just don't think they are open on week ends. Well, the ones I called were not answering.

So, I've started fucking around a little bit, in no small part inspired by PMB- I mean, if you scrubs can make shit that sounds that good, I might as well give it a shot, right? I'm fucking enthusiastic as hell but bewildered about how to get started.
At this point, I just want to be able to work on my flow a little bit by recording some vocals over beats that I find online. Is there an easy way to record a vocal track and mix it with an mp3 without having to buy any software?

Just re-read this thread lol. I don't even remember posting that.
I've been using reaper to record vocals thus far, but I'm just starting the whole process. Looking to take some time to actually finish the couple songs I've been whittiling away at little by little. Anyone know anything about reaper?
Also, idk if it helps, but The Jokerr has some videos about compression, eq, and all of that.
He's kind of a cocky dude, but his music DOES sound pretty great, from an engineering perspective. Plus, he goes through and explains everything.

Belated thanks @piggofdoom , I've been using Reaper and it's great as an easy way to record vocals over another track. I figure it's not worth fucking around too much until I get a real mic, but the videos look helpful too once I can record something that's worth cleaning up.
